Assignment Eleven: Self Portrait with a Twist

Posted by with 1 Comment

Images due October 10, 2013.

I hate making self-portraits. My camera doesn’t like me very much.

I know this because every shot I do of myself fails to reveal that Brad Pitt / Harrison Ford rugged good looks that I am convinced I exhibit.

Stupid camera.

I am sure many of you feel the same way.

So here is what we are going to do… A Self Portrait.

Without you in the photograph.

Yep… this is a self portrait without a photograph of you. It is the essence of “you”. You without you so to speak.

What is the essence of you… what makes you click? How can you show this in a photograph?

You can use parts of you in the shot – but not the face. This is an ‘essence’ portrait… something different.

Perhaps it is hands, or instruments, or kids, or significant others or your car or motorcycle or…

Old Snapshots
Black and White
Knick Knacks.

Not Allowed:

Your face as you look now.

This is a purely creative assignment… push your creativity.

Push your creativity through the lens.

Illustrate the following headline with a photograph that doesn’t show your face:

I look forward to your selfies…

Unfortunately, I can’t attend this weeks webinar. Here is the text that should go with my image: “The self-portrait illustrates a typical, daily situation – how the cold light of the computer screen illuminates and isolate from the physical world.”
